Farmers Market Aug 21st

August 22, 2010

On August 21st we welcomed the return of Chef Paul Hoag from Liaison Collage. He prepared four recipes using Cameron’s Brewery Beer.

Beer Cheddar Soup using Cameron's Brewery Lager

Chef Paul used a Dark Ale, a Lager, an Auburn Ale and a Cream Ale in his recipes.  He prepared a Beer and Cheddar soup with the Lager garnished with Oxtails.  Then he prepared some wonderful Braised Pork Belly using the Auburn Ale.

Then for something sweet Chef Paul mixed Chocolate with the Dark Ale, and created cupcakes with chocolate icing.  With the Cream Ale, Chef Paul created an incredibly tasty beer bread sticks with Garlic.

The flavours were incredible and the beers were perfectly matched to the recipes.  These recipes are available on the Liaison College Oakville website.

In addition to this special event featuring Liaison College and Cameron’s Brewery, we also had GoodLife Fitness visiting the market this week.  GoodLife Fitness was giving away plenty of free gifts during the market. They also had a special draw for two BBQ Sets and a free 6 month membership.  Their tent was well attended and many fitness conscious market visitors signed up for their trial membership.  This week Donna Messer captured the excitement of the Market in her Blog Talk Radio broadcast. You can listen to a replay of this broad Cast by clicking here.

Plan to visit the market each week for new tastes, new vendors and new experiences! You will want to plan to be at the market on September 11th when our MPP Kevin Flynn will be presenting the Kerr Village BIA with a grant from the Ontario Market Fund OMAFRA. The fund is in support of the promotion of buying and eating local farm fresh produce from within 100 miles of Kerr Village.

Kerr Village Farmers Market – July 3rd

July 4, 2010

The July 1st Canada Day weekend was a great day for the Kerr Village Farmers Market.  Not only were we supported by fine weather,  we had a large number of visitors from all over Oakville.  Our visitors experienced fresh picked Cherries and Raspberries from the Niagara Peninsula area.

Fresh Ontario potatoes and beans.  Organic Flax from Busy Liz’s farm in Campbellville.  If you are driving north on Guelph Line, be sure to stop at Busy Liz’s fruit stand in Campbellville. She has a large variety of fresh produce and is a wealth of information about healthy eating.  Our entertainment this week was provided by Rob Birmingham and John Restas.  They provided a welcome variety of 60’s though 80’s favorites.  We even had people dancing under the sunshine because the music was so great.  We are looking forward to more fresh cherries and raspberries this week and we will be searching out locally grown Blackberries, beans and cucumbers to ensure that there are plenty avaialble for you to pick up this Saturday July 10th.

I wonder if Dad would like this for Father's Day

The strawberries came from BerryFresh Farms in Niagara on the Lake.  They were picked fresh and brought straight back to the Kerr Village Farmers Market for our visitors to purchase.  Everyone who sampled these fresh strawberries bought at least two quarts.  The brilliant colours of the Peppers and Eggplant were too much to resist and we sold out very fast.   One of the highlights of the day was cookie decorating for Father’s Day.
